Success criterion 1.2.9
Audio-only (Live)
An alternative for time-based media is provided for all live audio content in synchronized media.
- Level AAA
- Principle 1: Perceivable
- Guideline 1.2: Time-based Media
In a user’s words
“I can see the excitement, but I can't understand why everyone is laughing.”
What each role can do
- Product manager
- Provide a real-time text alternative, such as live captioning, for every live audio-only broadcast.
- Designer
- Place the live transcript next to the audio player, with controls to pause scrolling and resize the text.
- Developer
- Stream the live text into an updating region that works with braille displays and screen magnifiers.
- Tester
- Test the live transcript during a real broadcast for accuracy, delay and readability.
Once it is fixed
“Your live captions are like having a front-row seat at every event. I'm not missing a beat, thanks to you!”
